The article (a case) highlights the experience of regional university in staff optimization caused by requirements federal legislation to improve quality higher education and outline personnel strategy prospects for future.The methodological basis study is systematic approach, which made it possible comprehensively assess qualitative changes staff; use method situational analysis largely contributed an increase objectivity results obtained. Besides, researchers used following methods: legislative documents that determine activities a educational institution; theoretical papers on management institutions human resource management; mathematical modelling statistical data, social forecasting.The comes be theoretically significant, as clarifies concept «staff optimization» introduces «university new scientific term. research also distinguishes basic principles substantiates reasons this process, mainly related demographic, economic situation our country tasks reforming system. examines strategy» its components, focused preserving academic traditions, creating conditions increasing competency encouraging faculty intensify their activity.
